Participation of the Serbian Biogas Association in the Serbian Delegation’s Visit to the People’s Republic of China

At the invitation and with the trust of our esteemed member, the Institute for the Application of Science in Agriculture, Dr. Miodrag Višković, a member of the Serbian Biogas Association, was part of the delegation that visited the People’s Republic of China on behalf of the Serbian Biogas Association.

Discussions on the promotion and management of biogas in developing countries were held with officials participating in the seminar through lectures, symposiums, field visits, and cultural tours. The Serbian delegation attended a seminar on biogas promotion and management for developing countries, held at the Chengdu Biogas Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (BIOMA). Established in 1979, BIOMA is a key institution for research and training in biogas and other rural renewable energies. During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to learn about the development of biogas technology in China, its applications, and its environmental benefits.

The seminar covered a wide range of topics, including an overview of China’s national characteristics, the development status of Chinese biogas technology, the design and construction of large and medium biogas plants, the design and construction of household biogas digesters, the operation and management of large and medium biogas plants, biogas energy production technology, bioethanol fuel crops, biogas technology standards and quality control, as well as the disposal and ecological benefits of biogas compost.

In addition to lectures and symposiums, the seminar included field visits and cultural tours. The delegation visited the Chengdu Shuangliu Yong ‘an biogas cooperative, centralized gas supply plants, and a biogas plant at a dairy farm. Cultural activities included visits to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project, Stone Forest, and Dianchi Lake, allowing participants to experience China’s natural and cultural heritage.

BIOMA is recognized as one of the leading centers for biogas research and training, with extensive experience in international cooperation. Since its founding, BIOMA has conducted over 170 international training sessions for more than 5,400 participants from over 130 countries, significantly contributing to the development of biogas technology globally.

The participation of the Serbian delegation in this seminar has opened new opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of biogas, which is crucial for advancing sustainable energy solutions in Serbia and other developing countries.
