Singidunum University Students Visit the Biogas Petrov Plant in Ilandža

As part of the Renewable Energy Sources course, students from Singidunum University had the opportunity to visit the Biogas Petrov plant in Ilandža and gain first-hand insight into the operation of a modern renewable energy facility.

Accompanied by Professor Suzana Đorđević Milošević and Professor Miroslav Popović, the students toured the plant, which is currently in the final stages of preparation before commencing operations. During the visit, they learned about the biogas production process, the key components of the facility, the feedstocks used, and the role of biogas and biomethane in the energy transition and sustainable agricultural development.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies with a real-life industry example and to gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the sector.

The day before the site visit, Lidija Zelić, Director of the Serbian Biogas Association, delivered a guest lecture at Singidunum University on the development of the biogas and biomethane sector in Serbia. The lecture provided students with a broader overview of the regulatory framework, market trends, sector development potential, and the importance of biogas and biomethane for agriculture, energy, and environmental protection, serving as an excellent introduction to the field visit.

Strengthening cooperation between academia and industry and providing students with practical experience are essential for developing the next generation of professionals. Through activities such as these, students gain valuable insight into a sector in which they may one day build their careers and contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions.

The Serbian Biogas Association will continue to support initiatives that bring the biogas and biomethane sector closer to young people and encourage their active participation in Serbia’s green transition.
