Good news for everyone who believes in biogas and its future in Serbia! Based on the decision of the Executive Board of EPS AD, there is now an opportunity to extend existing Power Purchase Agreements for biogas plants — for an additional eight years within the incentive period.
This decision comes at a crucial time for the renewable energy sector in Serbia and confirms the government’s strategic commitment to long-term support for the development of green technologies. The extension of FIT contracts brings a range of benefits: it offers security to investors, ensures the financial sustainability of existing plants, creates space for further development and reinvestment, and strengthens trust in the regulatory framework for renewable energy.
The contract annex model has already been published and is available on the official EPS website. We encourage all operators to familiarize themselves with the document and initiate communication with the relevant departments in a timely manner to begin the extension process.
This decision sends a strong signal that biogas is being recognized as a strategically important energy source, particularly in the context of developing the biomethane market, the circular economy, and sustainable waste management. Biogas plants are increasingly acknowledged not only as sources of electricity and heat but also as key players in the decarbonization of agriculture, improvement of waste management, and environmental protection.
This is a significant moment for all investors, producers, and partners in the sector. The decision clearly demonstrates that the biogas sector is gaining stability and receiving the institutional attention it deserves. Now is the right time to continue investing, launch new projects, and work together toward a sustainable energy future for Serbia.
