Serbian Biogas Association Hosts Conference on New Business Opportunities in Serbia’s Bioenergy Sector

On 19 March 2026, the Serbian Biogas Association, in cooperation with its long-standing partner Fachverband Biogas e.V. (German Biogas Association), organised the conference “New Business Opportunities in Serbia’s Bioenergy Sector” in Belgrade, bringing together representatives of public institutions, companies, international organisations, academia, and investors.

We are particularly proud to have once again brought together key stakeholders from across the sector, reaffirming the importance of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a shared commitment to advancing bioenergy in Serbia. It is equally encouraging to see Serbia increasingly aligning with European trends in this field, a process to which the Association actively contributes through its daily activities.

The conference demonstrated that the sector is entering a new stage of development. While the technology itself is now largely proven and readily available, the focus is increasingly shifting towards market opportunities, investments, and sustainable business models. Particular attention was given to biomethane as a new development and investment opportunity, as well as to the role of the sector within the circular economy through digestate valorisation and the integration of energy, agriculture, and waste management.

One of the key messages emerging from the conference was that Serbia possesses the knowledge, resources, and growing interest necessary to further develop the sector. However, the next crucial step will be the establishment of a stable and predictable regulatory framework capable of supporting new investments and enabling the development of a functioning market.

For the Serbian Biogas Association, this conference represented far more than a single event. It was a confirmation that the sector is maturing, evolving, and bringing together people who genuinely believe in its importance for the energy transition, sustainable agriculture, and the development of a circular economy.

The Serbian Biogas Association will continue to serve as a platform that connects stakeholders, fosters dialogue, and actively supports the development of biogas, biomethane, and new business models in Serbia.
