Fachverband Biogas e.V. and the Serbian Biogas Association jointly organised a webinar as part of their bilateral cooperation project, aimed at presenting the development of Serbia’s biogas sector to German companies interested in opportunities across Southeast Europe. The webinar attracted a large number of representatives from German companies, who gained valuable insights into the Serbian biogas market, its regulatory framework, investment opportunities and the future development of the biomethane sector.

The webinar opened with an introduction to the bilateral cooperation project, which seeks to strengthen collaboration between the German and Serbian biogas sectors by fostering knowledge exchange, sharing best practices and facilitating connections between companies and institutions from both countries.
Lidija Zelić, Managing Director of the Serbian Biogas Association, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the development of the Serbian biogas sector, covering its historical evolution, current market status and regulatory framework, as well as ongoing activities related to the establishment of the national biomethane market. She also highlighted Serbia’s significant potential for further sector growth and the opportunities it offers for international cooperation and investment.
The practical perspective was presented by Goran Knežević, President of the Assembly of the Serbian Biogas Association and one of the pioneers of the Serbian biogas sector. Drawing on many years of hands-on experience in developing and operating biogas plants, he shared valuable insights into the specific characteristics of plant operation in Serbia, the challenges encountered by plant operators and investors, and the practical solutions developed throughout the sector’s evolution.
The high level of participation and the lively discussion that followed demonstrated the growing interest of German companies in the Serbian market. Particular attention was given to the ongoing development of the biomethane regulatory framework, feedstock availability, investment conditions and opportunities for future cooperation with Serbian partners.
The webinar represents another important activity within the bilateral cooperation project between Fachverband Biogas e.V. and the Serbian Biogas Association, reaffirming the shared commitment of both organisations to strengthening international cooperation, promoting knowledge transfer and supporting the further development of the biogas and biomethane sectors in Serbia.
