Participation of the Biogas Association Serbia at the conference organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Serbia, FTN Novi Sad, and EBRD

Conference titled “Potentials of Serbian Agriculture in Bioenergy Production and Examples of Best Practices from the Netherlands,” organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Serbia, Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with the support of WB EDIF, was held at the Rectorate of the University of Novi Sad. Participants from the association were Prof. Dr. Đorđe Đatkov, serving as the moderator of the panel “Innovations in the Biogas Sector and Examples of Best Practices from the Netherlands,” and Mr. Goran Knežević, participating in the panel “Potentials of the Biogas Sector in Serbia.” The conference focused on the connection between biogas and agriculture, featuring presentations on biogas in Serbia and showcasing best practices from the Netherlands. The president of the Biogas Association in the Netherlands provided relevant information about the sector in that country.

The theme of utilizing agricultural waste for biogas production, with the aim of showcasing the potential of agriculture, promoting modern technologies, and innovations in the biogas sector, was primarily directed towards decision-makers and future investors planning to invest in the biogas sector in Serbia. The goal of this conference was to address decision-makers, demonstrate the potential of the biogas sector, and present EBRD support to prospective investors.

Conference participants agreed that, particularly in the face of extreme climate and energy challenges, efficient and innovative solutions are needed to cease the use of fossil fuels and transition to a green economy. This also involves creating an environment resilient to climate change.

Representatives from the EBRD spoke about the bank’s green plan and the support it provides to businesses in Serbia through advisory services and financing.
